In the Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox tradition, a hieromartyr is a martyr (one who dies for his beliefs) who was a bishop or priest. Analogously, a monk who is a priest is known as a hieromonk.

The difference between a hieromartyr and a martyr is that the former is also an ordained clergyman. Hieromartyrs do not constitute a special rank of saint and are commemorated at the Divine Liturgy together with other martyrs.
