[edit]I'm not sure why the changes by 213.236.117.2 were reverted; some good information was added. I've put the changes back in, with the exception of the removed two-stroke cycle comments. From what I can determine, some diesel two-stroke engines do use valves and a camshaft. [1] -- Wapcaplet 16:54, 28 Apr 2004 (UTC)
What about lift?

Other Uses
[edit]This article is completely geared towards camshafts that are used in engines, however camshafts are also used in other fields. The company I work for uses them to actuate elements at specific times in reference to other actuating elements in order to recreate consistent action for each cycle of the camshaft. Perhaps a section should be added about how camshafts are utilized in other industries. --Wizard191 (talk) 14:36, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- True. after all, the internal combustion engine is just a modified piston air pump, which works the valves with a camshaft in the same way. not to mention all the electrical timers that use cams, like washing machines, etc. Gzuckier (talk) 17:54, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

The rockers or cam followers sometimes incorporate a mechanism to adjust and set the valve play through manual adjustment, but most modern auto engines have hydraulic lifters, eliminating the need to adjust the valve lash at regular intervals as the valvetrain wears, and in particular the valves and valve seats in the combustion chamber. >

Revisions
[edit]Overall I thought the information was very useful, but I did notice a few things missing. In my update, I talked about pushrods at length because I feel that they are an important topic to cover when talking about pushrods. I also mention OHC engines, these camshafts are not really different from those in pushrods engines but they should be recognized.
