I put the ordered pairs in as column-major, though I'm not sure that's the convention. wot
Hello all, I thought I would mention here that there is currently an ongoing discussion about the appropriate appearance of payoff matrices in game theory articles. Please comment at: Wikipedia:WikiProject Game theory/Matrix. (And while you're at it, join the wikiproject too ;) --best, kevin ···Kzollman | Talk··· 21:10, August 31, 2005 (UTC)
Merge
[edit]Since most references to payoff matrices are about games in normal form, I think the two articles should be merged. Does anyone see why not? --best, kevin ···Kzollman | Talk··· 21:13, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
- I agree that most references to payoff matrices are about games in normal form. Indeed most useful ways of thinking about games (in the way we're thinking here, not in the sense of logic) are about games in normal form. But it may be helpful to have a short separate article sying what the distinction is with examples.
- I do agree that most of the content of the normal game article belongs here. --CSTAR 22:06, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
- I'm also with merge. If there's to be a short article on the distinction with examples, then I'd think it would belong in the one true merged article. Pete.Hurd 22:12, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
- I hate to jump in three weeks late, but I disagree. While a payoff matrix article and normal form games could be merged to look like an article about normal form games, the generalization of a payoff function (as a different perspective on utility functions) deserves its own article. So, I say merge, and spin off the last part of the current payoff matrix article into an article called payoff function (which then should be expanded).Smmurphy 17:52, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
