[edit]I removed this paragraph, which didn't agree with the source cited.
- Harlan County was established in 1871, and named for Thomas Harlan, Revenue Collector of Wyoming Territory, appointed by President Ulysses S. Grant. In 1871 he led a group of settlers into the area and was voted President of the Cheyenne Colony. Later that year, the legislature of Nebraska honored him by naming Harlan County, Nebraska after him. It looks as though the person who originally inserted this might have more information on Thomas Harlan, but it needs a source—ideally, a well-formatted source.

- Can't remember his first name, but one Harlan did in-depth research and published a book with extensive findings on the various members of the Harlan family in America (I know this because I have Harlans in my genealogy), who are all apparently descended from a family who came over here from Ireland shortly before 1700. I've not seen the book, but I get the impression that it's reliable and full of information, so I expect that the person who inserted this really does have more information. However, without a proper citation, we can't know the publication data and thus can't verify the information in the citation, so I support removal. Nyttend (talk) 05:03, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
