Correct gameplay where necessary
[edit]The description of this game is from what I remember from playing it. Since that was 20 years (!) ago, there may be some errors. Please correct any that you find. — Frecklefoot | Talk 18:05, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)
- Done. I still occasionally fire up the Apple II emulator (and still have pretty sharp memories of my early 80's game playing as well) -- Kaszeta 20:47, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- And actually, quite a few months ago I excised some text from Castle Wolfenstein since it described BCW and not CW. If I have a change I'll go back into Castle Wolfenstein's history and retrieve some of it. -- Kaszeta 20:51, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I think this is the version that has the text you're referring to. It would be nice to have it in this article, since it goes into great detail and even has the German phrases they utter. I'll leave that up to you, however, since the two games have become mixed up in my head and I won't be able to play them again for quite a while (if ever). :-) — Frecklefoot | Talk 21:03, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)
- I've merged in the text, but right now the prose isn't exactly brilliant. I'll try to clean it up later, but feel free to tinker with it to smooth it out and make it more readable. -- Kaszeta 13:36, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
'May have' inspired Wolfenstein 3-D?
[edit]I thought there was no doubt that Wolfenstein 3-D was a continuation of the Beyond Wolfenstein series? 23skidoo 18:31, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
- No, not really a continuation. It was inspired by the series and used the name, but it was more of a re-telling, if memory serves. Carmack (or Romero) got permission to use the name for their game, but it's not really very similar. — Frecklefoot | Talk 01:41, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
- I recently bought Masters of Doom, so I'll see what I can do in the next week regarding this stuff.--Drat (Talk) 09:10, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Incorrect initial description?
[edit]The first paragraph states "Both games were the only World War II era games that were First-person shooter.". Ignoring the bad grammar at the end, this sentence is wrong as neither BCW or CW are first person. They're both 2D, single board/screen games. Enverex (talk) 16:29, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
- I've removed the paragraph. It cited This source:
- Ramsay, Debra (2015). American Media and the Memory of World War II. Routledge. p. 167. ISBN 9781317617907. Retrieved 29 August 2016.
- This is a short mention which seems confused about the distinction between first-person shooter and simple shooter game. The previous page of the book cites Moby Games for game categorization, but Moby Games lists is as a top-down shooter, so this can safely be regarded as an error.
