Burials
[edit]Which famous people are buried here, then? I believe Jim Morrison is one of them, but I'm not sure (he's not, just checked his article). Even then, there should be more than one. Jheijmans 04:15 Jul 23, 2002 (PDT)
- Nope, Jim is at the Pere Lachaise. Montparnasse has some famous people, but it is much smaller, and rather plain. PL is very picturesque.
Far from plain, the Montparnasse cemetery is beautiful and full of scuptured monuments equal to or better than the Pere Lachaise. Note, the French government has asked the United States to take Jim home! Fans have turned his memorial into a nightmare.
________
There had been talk of moving Morrison's body to Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, but this fell through. Morrison's grave will remain at Pere Lachaise.
________
On the discussion page for the article on George Sand, someone asked why she is described there as being buried in two places: in the cemetery of Montparnasse and in the cemetery of her estate at Nohant. After doing some research online, I found that she was buried at Nohant and that her remains have been there ever since. There are several articles, including one from the Guardian in September 2003, dealing with the proposal of the French government to have Sand reinterred at the Panthéon. It is consistently mentioned that the proposal is to remove her from Nohant. There are also articles, including ones involving an organization called Les Amis de George Sand, giving opinions on whether she should be removed from Nohant. Based on this, I question that she is listed in this article and in the article on Sand as having a burial at Montparnasse. Does anyone have evidence of a Montparnasse connnection? A cenotaph or plaque in Sand's memory, perhaps? InvisibleSun 8/29/05
Cemetery Plan
[edit]Hi all! I want to add screen shots from the following cite to the page: https://api-site.paris.fr/images/74771
They are a map of the cemetery and important people buried there.
Is there a way to do so? I want to cite the website.
