Who says Ranicipitidae has been absorbed? We need a ref. Stan 15:01, 23 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Well, the only species that I could trace as ever having been in Ranicipitidae (the tadpole fish) is now placed by Fishbase in Gadidae; and Ranicipitidae is unknown to fishbase, or at least to my ways of searching it. In consequence I can't find any record of what happened. But I am not an expert on the ways of fish taxonomy so I was not sure how to hunt it up. seglea 18:10, 23 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Hello, Gadidae-lovers! I just found pout listed on Wikipedia:1911_Encyclopedia_topics/Categorised/12#Animals_and_etc. The page says that it is "also whiting-pout or bib (Gadus luscus), a fish of the family Gadidae". I added parts of this to the pout disambiguation page, but can find no confirmation of any of that on the web, and looking at this page suggests that if Gadidae have been reclassified, perhaps pout isn't even a member. I don't know whether that definition comes from 1911 or more recently, but if it is 1911, then I suspect it may be a little outdated... I have left it for now, but if someone who has heard of pout, whiting-pout, bib, horned pout or any of the other terms I found on the web knows whether it is still part of the family, and wants to tidy the pout page up, that would be much-appreciated. Thanks. Telsa (talk) 13:51, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
