Article Copyright and License
[edit]Restored deleted copyright and licensing to Wikipedia discussion. Rbrightwell (talk) 05:14, 12 February 2019 (UTC)
Well, looks like someone came through here and replaced every occurrence of my name (Richard Brightwell) with "Scott Perry". Strange. Why would someone edit the conversation I had with John Owens years ago? Take a look at the history.
For the record... I wrote the original (pre-edits) Wikipedia article on King C. Gillette. I am and have always been the copyright holder. http://www.creekstone.net/razors/kingcampgillette.htm
--Richard B. Brightwell 20 June 2005.
This information was posted by the original copyright holder, Richard B. Brightwell.
- Are you willing to release it under the GFDL? -- John Owens 22:23 May 8, 2003 (UTC)
- The other issue is, how do we know you're really, truly Mr. Brightwell? If Mr. Brightwell ever brought us to court for copyright infringement, it wouldn't look very good if we said "But, well, this anonymous contributor told us it was his....", would it? And by anonymous, I don't just mean getting a username, since that's no more guarantee that you're the Real Mr. B. I'm not sure, there hasn't been much talk about how to prove it, but one thing that should probably be sufficient to any reasonble person would be if you were to create a page on the creekstone.net site, that in some way lets us know it's you putting it there; perhaps by including your current IP in it or username if you choose to get one. Then give us a link to that. There are probably other ways, but that's the first one that comes to mind (perhaps not the simplest there is). -- John Owens 22:32 May 8, 2003 (UTC)

- OK, that'll do nicely. :) Glad to see you specified "this page" on there, I was a bit concerned you might have done something that would accidentally make the whole site GFDL, or something like that; these things can be a bit tricky.
- You do realize as well that, as the text on the edit page says, it's going "to be edited mercilessly and redistributed at will", right? And I'm one of the ones in line to edit it? It's not going to look quite the same after that. ;) -- John Owens 23:44 May 8, 2003 (UTC)
- I like the changes you made. I look forward to seeing what others add to the page. I'm really glad to be able to contribute a bit, for two reasons: 1) I really enjoy using Wikipedia. It's a great idea and you guys are doing a good thing. 2) I'm so glad to help set the record straight about who invented the safety razor. If I get some more time I'll add a few paragraphs about Gillette unusual socialist ideas, or perhaps someone will beat me to it. :) Richard Brightwell 9 May 2003 3:12 UTC
- Afraid I beat you to it (before I read your comments). Feel free to expand on them though Justinc 11:51, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I'm so glad to see people catching my mistakes and updating this page! Wiki rocks! :-)

"razor and blades" business model?
[edit]The "razor and blades" business model commonly refers to the principle of selling the "razor" for little or no profit -- or even giving it away -- and making the profit on the "blades". However, this article says that the original Gillette razor sold for $5. Even allowing for inefficient manufacturing, it's hard to believe that Gillette was "giving it away" -- that is, that he wasn't making a substantial profit on the razor. If so, then this isn't really "razor and blades" marketing! This needs rethinking.
Also, the writing is a bit sloppy -- too many "very"s, unnecessary information (eg, Gillette was -- surprise! -- working to support his family), etc. I've cleaned this up a bit. WilliamSommerwerck (talk) 12:21, 28 May 2010 (UTC)lyque ahmed

French 2
[edit]In his Penguin Dictionary of Surnames Basil Cottle explains Gillette as L(ocal Name) 'gill head'(i.e. top of the ravine) Old Norse+Old English .....Finally adding that "The final -tte is fanciful". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:B07:6463:99D:54D1:C25F:638E:F975 (talk) 22:20, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
Gillette name in some languages' is a word for razor blade
[edit]https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/razor_blade#English
As you can see here, some slavic languages use words based on Gillette's name to call the razor blade. Among others, my native polish uses "żyletka", where "żylet" is the core, which is pretty much how one can pronounce Gillette (if they think he's French :D) "-ka" is diminutive. But some other languages like Croatian are even closer. And at least in polish, I've seen sources (e.g. Wiktionary says so) that confirm this and I haven't seen it disputed.
Is it a fact worth noting in this article about King C. or should it be in an article about Gillette company or none of these? — Preceding unsigned comment added by J.malczewsky (talk • contribs) 06:14, 15 July 2020 (UTC)

Is no-one going to talk about or at least mention Gillet's Industrial Revolution
[edit]It is probably one of his most notable works, and I don't know why it isn't mentioned alongside his other publications. Louister41 (talk) 03:27, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
