Merge from Topher (comics)
[edit]This character doesn't seem notable outside of this comic. Is there a good reason it should stay separate? Argento Surfer (talk) 17:39, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
- Why here and not List of Marvel Comics characters: T?--TriiipleThreat (talk) 17:47, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
- Based on the article, the character seems exclusive to this comic title. I thought it seemed like a better fit, but I'd be ok with that target as well. Argento Surfer (talk) 19:09, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
- Topher joins the main group of the Runaways for an arc of the comic, playing the role of both team member and villain. All other members of the Runaways have their own articles, as do villains of other arcs who also don't appear in other comics - See Val Rhymin. He's also a unique case for the display of Vampire powers that are not displayed by other Vampires in the Marvel universe, as mentioned in the Vampire (Marvel Comics) page. From referencing the Notability Guidelines he appears significant enough to warrant his own page and not be merged. -- Necrosaur —Preceding undated comment added 01:51, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
- Additionally, I do believe at least a link to Topher (or the articles new home), belongs in the Runaways character section, though the character's section of the Runaways page needs to be redone to bring it into line with other more recently updated Comics wiki pages, putting the current team members / former team members and recurring characters into a table with Character name, real name, original appearance issue and notes as headings. It seems to be the standard across Comics, particularly Marvel - see Young Avengers, Avengers Academy and even Nico's latest title A-Force for examples. Necrosaur (talk) 02:23, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Other stuff exists is not a valid reason to keep this article - it's a reason to merge the others too. The reasons you present actually make my case stronger - none of them demonstrate notability outside of this comic. Argento Surfer (talk) 12:25, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

- Merge as proposed - As noted in the nomination, the character lacks notability independent from the series. Moreover, the article's only independent sourcing is in the "Reception" section and is limited to the usual "comb reviews of the media for any mention of the character" stuff rather than actual significant coverage.--Martin IIIa (talk) 17:33, 1 January 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose Topher has a lot of encyclopedic content that wouldn't fit into the main Runaways article. I see no problem with having this article and believe that the loss of much of the content of this article or a merge putting undue focus on Topher in the main article (Which is probably the least notable, since we've decided he doesn't deserve an individual article) would be bad for the encyclopedia. Trialpears (talk) 12:18, 18 April 2019 (UTC)
- Could you clarify that last part? It sounds like you're saying Runaways is less notable than a character who appears in it. Argento Surfer (talk) 14:18, 18 April 2019 (UTC)
- Sorry, really bad formulation on my part. I meant that Topher probably is a less notable character than the other team members that all have articles that aren't being considered for a merger to the main article. Having the most content about him in the main article would imply he was the most notable character, directly contradicting the conclusion that he isn't notable enough for his own article. - Comment To get more participants in this discussion I will tag active wikiproject merge member @Klbrain: and mentioning this merger on the marvel comics taskforce's talk page. Sadly none of the major contributors to either article were active in the past year so I did not notify any of them. Trialpears (talk) 12:07, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
- I agree that Topher doesn't reach independent notability, but nor do half half of the Marvel WP:FANCRUFT articles. The 'Reception' and 'In the media' section do at least attempt to discuss out-of-universe issues. A merge to Runaways (comics) would unbalance that page, and should probably only be done in conjunction with merging most of the other character pages linked from it. Given that this doesn't seem feasible given WP:SIZE (if all were to be merged in) I'm tempted to leave well alone and tag for improvement. Klbrain (talk) 16:48, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I understand the concern with giving the character undue weight in this article. It's not like his page would be copy/pasted into this one. The only content that would warrant merging is the brief reception comments, and that would be easy to balance out. Argento Surfer (talk) 17:28, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

- Comment This might be taboo, but could/should we move him (and most of the other heroes that don't have cultural impacts) to fandom.com ([[1]])? I feel that they have way more information on every fictional character than we could ever hope to contain, and a Wikipedia article on them only serves to get in the way of the more informative fandom article. Plus, we aren't fandom, so it's possible that Topher actually violates WP:NOT. ElectroChip123 (talk) 16:24, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
- I'd be fine with adding external links for each of the characters. Argento Surfer (talk) 16:59, 2 May 2019 (UTC)
That sounds like a good solution! This would however result in the page being deleted from Wikipedia, which means that we probably should perform an AfD discussion instead with this suggestion in the nomination.Trialpears 22:30, 3 May 2019 (UTC)- Why would we have to delete the page? It could just redirect here. Argento Surfer (talk) 02:52, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- I've seen the sentiment that deletion by redirection, which this would effectiveley be, should also be discussed at AfD, however after reading WP:D-R and WP:ATD-R I've realized that this is not default practice. Because of those reasons I withdraw my previous comment and fully support a trans wiki merge to the appropriate fandom. Trialpears 09:27, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Character Deaths in Overview
[edit]I was just wondering if there was any reason why a simple table of characters with short descriptions of who they are needs to contain that they died and in what issue they died?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.171.40.160 (talk) 16:32, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
- Death is a relevant piece of information about a character. The issue number could be taken out of the prose and put in a reference. Argento Surfer (talk) 21:35, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

Volume 4?
[edit]Are we sure the Battleworld run counts as a 4-issue "Volume 4" like the infobox says? When the most recent run ended after issue 38, the final issue was reported as the 100th Runaways issue overall, which would only be the case if that didn't count. Alphius (talk) 06:14, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
Marvel Voices Runaways?
[edit]Should we add Marvel Voices Runaways to the article? I'm not sure if it is notable enough because it is still ongoing and hasn't had a print release, though I'd like a second opinion. Any thoughts? Grumpylawnchair (talk) 04:27, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
