Name of this page
[edit]I first called this page "Sir Robert Robinson"; it was moved, for no good reason that I can see, and in mild violation of Wikipedia naming policy, to "Robert Robinson (scientist)". If there was a good reaon for this move, please indicate them here, otherwise I propose to move it back to its starting place. ---- Charles Stewart 19:52, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Sir Thomas Sean Connery is also without his Sir and I know Robert Robinson but never saw a publication signed "Sir Robert Robinson" so I think the move was OK.--Stone 19:37, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- The relevant guideline is Wikipedia:Naming conventions (names_and_titles)#Other_non-royal_names, item 5. First, it says "Titles of Knighthood such as Sir and Dame should not be included in the article title: use personal name instead, e.g., Arthur Conan Doyle not Sir Arthur Conan Doyle". But later it says "'Sir' may be used in article titles as a disambiguator". I'm not sure if I'm interpreting this correctly, but I think it means that if there is only one person with a given name, then the title should not be used, but if there are multiple people with a given name (as is the case here), and one of them was knighted, then we can include the title. --Itub (talk) 13:59, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Tropinone Mechanism
[edit]The arrow pushing for the tropinone synthesis mechanism is abysmal. Either a full, accurate electron pushing mechanism for the synthesis should be made or the diagram should be edited to remove the arrows entirely. I'm not sure which is the best course of action. - there is nothing wrong with the arrow pushing but the chemistry does not belong in this biography page. The image was replaced a long time ago by the one on the current tropinone page. V8rik (talk) 17:28, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- I've replaced the old image with the new one for now. Do you think its better to remove the chemistry entirely? I think its important considering that its one of Robinson's most important contributions. If there's some style guide that says otherwise I guess I'd understand removing it. Mdlevin (talk) 00:22, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Mdlevin and thanks for your consideration. I will leave it up to you if the image should stay on this page. I am of the (minority) opinion that science should be explained on science pages only and not on bio pages, a link from this Robinson page to the tropinone page should suffice.
