It states in this article that there exists a "contradiction" between Luke and Matthew with where Joseph and Mary went to after the birth of Jesus. Contradiction means that two pieces of information cannot both be true. If one is true, the other must be false. Mary and Joseph going to Egypt and going to Nazareth do not logically contradict, for both could be true. Matthew has Jesus and his family fleeing to Egypt to escape persecution, while Luke's narrative contains no element of fear or harm in Jesus' infancy. Matthew's narrative has the events taking place while Herod the Great is still alive (before 4 BC), and Luke's narratuive has them occur about a decade later, during the term of Quirinius in 6 AD. They directly contradict each other. Their genealogies of Jesus also contradict each other, and ran counter to the narrative in the Gospel of John. It is impossible for all accounts in the contradictory Gospels to be true, but then again they are not truthful narratives. They are fictionalized life accounts, and the writers probably invented the details. Dimadick (talk) 09:32, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any HARD EVIDENCE of a contradiction between accounts?
Is it possible that a copyist dropped words, or inverted something?
These accounts were written (approx.) 1900 years ago
...in other languages
...Aramaic and Greek and (?)
To me, it seems easy to make a mistake while copying...especially if the copyist has:
-- no computer
-- no electric lights
-- no internet
-- persecutors trying to kill...
English translations are not "perfect" ...
PLEASE ask HEAVEN
to give us the "light" we need
so we can "see" the TRUTH
about J.C.

Why can't two (2) geneologies trace via different people?
