"former" coach in lead

Rather than revert it again, bringing it here. Nothing has been stated/cited suggesting Ruff has retired from coaching, he just does not currently have a gig. An unsigned player is not a "former" player until they announce a retirement. Why is a coach a "former" coach the instant he is let go from a gig?
