- 1905 – Construction begins on the Apalachicola Northern Railroad in Florida.
- 1946 – Oliver Robert Hawke Bury, Chief mechanical engineer and manager of Great Western Railway of Brazil 1892-1894, general manager of the Great Northern Railway in England 1902-1912, Director of the London and North Eastern Railway 1912-1945, dies (b. 1861).
- 2001 – A General Motors Electro-Motive Division JT42CWR (Series 66) (class example pictured) becomes the first American-built diesel locomotive to cross the Germany-Switzerland border as it leads a container train from Cologne to Mutenz.
- 2003 – M>Train's new Siemens Nexas trains are officially introduced into regular service in Melbourne, Australia.
