[edit]Description |

Article | |
Portion used |
A single frame from the film/broadcast/media concerned: because the image is a screenshot, the entire image is needed to place the image in context with relation to the work from which it is sourced, and to accompany any relevant commentary given in the associated article. |
Low resolution? |
The screenshot is of sufficient resolution for commentary and identification but lower resolution than the original film/broadcast or media. Copies made from it will be of inferior quality, unsuitable as artwork on unauthorised versions or other uses that would compete with the commercial purpose of the original artwork. |
Purpose of use |
The image provides visual identification and illustration of the titluar monster of the article in which the image appears. The image is used for identification and clarifcation in the context of critical commentary of the monster which is the subject of the image. It makes a significant contribution to the user's understanding of the article, which could not practically be conveyed by words alone. The image is placed in the infobox at the top of the article discussing the work, to show a visual image associated with the work mentioned in the associated article or section, and to help the user quickly identify the work and know they have found what they are looking for. Use for this purpose does not compete with the purposes of the original work, a single low-resolution frame, being of comparatively low commercial value. |
Replaceable? |
As a screenshot of a copyrighted film/broadcast/animation or audio visual presentation, the image is not replaceable by free content; any other image captured from the same film would also be copyrighted, and any version that is not true to the original would be inadequate for identification or commentary. Furthermore as copyright in the monster design shown is almost certainly still owned by the BBC or the monsters creators, it would not be possible to produce a 'free' replica. |
Other information |
Use of the screenshot in the article complies with Wikipedia non-free content policy and fair use under United States copyright law as described above. |

Licensing
[edit]This is a copyrighted image that has been released by a company or organization to promote their work or product in the media, such as advertising material or a promotional photo in a press kit. The copyright for it is most likely owned by the company who created the promotional item or the artist who produced the item in question; you must provide evidence of such ownership. Lack of such evidence is grounds for deletion. It is believed that the use of some images of promotional material to illustrate:
qualifies as fair use under Copyright law of the United States. Any other usage of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content and Wikipedia:Publicity photos. Additionally, the copyright holder may have granted permission for use in works such as Wikipedia. However, if they have, this permission likely does not fall under a free license. Please note that our policy usually considers fair use images of living people that merely show what they look like to be replaceable by free-licensed images and unsuitable for the project. If this is not the case for this image, a rationale must be provided proving that the image provides information beyond simple identification or showing that this image is difficult to replace by a free-licensed equivalent. Commercial third-party reusers of this image should consider whether their use is in violation of the subject's publicity rights.
